Alina Birjuk is a documentary, portrait, and editorial photographer based in Zürich, working across food, hospitality, and craft. Her practice sits at the intersection of storytelling and commerce — built for brands and publications that need images with a point of view, not just coverage.
Alina embraces imperfection and playfulness, favoring the unpolished and the everyday. She frequently engages food and objects as metaphors, seeing in them both personal symbolism and wider cultural scripts. Whether through the lens of a half-eaten meal, her images evoke emotional closeness while leaving space for ambiguity and the viewer’s interpretation.
Alina worked in design and digital marketing, spending years at Vurr — experience that shows up in how she approaches a shoot today: with an eye for how an image will actually be used, not just how it looks in isolation. That agency background, paired with studies in Trends and Identity at ZHdK Zürich, gives her a working fluency in brand systems, campaign thinking, and content built to perform across channels.
Clients include Mercedes-Benz, Google, Nike, Bolt, Rivella, and Visit Estonia; work has appeared in NZZ, Estonian World, Värske Rõrhk and Müürileht. Alongside commercial work, she runs long-form projects — Ruhe Visits, a documentary series on sustainable Swiss farms, restaurants, and artisans, and ongoing editorial platforms centered on slow living and food culture — that keep her practice anchored in real places and real people.
